Update - It seems that the crank is twisted! I've taken the engine out and started to strip down. Apparently, I can have the crank re-trued and welded, so all is not lost. Are there any recommendations for local businesses that can do that? Also, I've bought a new casing because I wasn't happy with the threads etc. when I took the crank case cover off. Dodgy

Finding more and more problems the deeper I get into the engine! As well as the twisted crank I found a gear tooth in the crank case, the piston is knackered - badly scored with rings bent. Some decisions to make regarding the best way forward. Huh
